Persuasive Speech Self-Evaluation

Before my Persuasive Speech presentation, as usual I was nervous, but not as nervous as when I did the Informative Speech.  As I started to prepare for my Persuasive Speech it was hard for me to find a topic at first.  I wanted my speech to be something that the audience would find useful and something that was meaningful to myself.   I didn’t want to just get up there and read.

During the presentation, I was slightly nervous, but then I thought to myself as I looked out at everyone, just give it your all.  I noticed once again that I spoke a little fast, but this time it wasn't nervousness.  There was a lot I wanted to say, and I wanted to make sure that when I finished my speech that the audience had a pretty good idea of what district scholarships were and how important they are to the students at Joliet Township.

After the presentation, I felt pretty good about the presentation of the speech but I didn’t feel I had enough passion when giving the speech.  This is a topic that I am very passionate about and I don’t think the audience felt the passion.  After the class though, I felt really good when Catherine approached me and said that she never knew that things like that existed.  She said that she nor her sister never really even spoke with their counselor while in high school.  I told her that although this is something that Joliet Township does I am sure other districts have similar programs.  I really felt that my speech made an impact after talking with her.

As before, I practiced this speech in front of my husband.  The only difference this time is that we had some friends over and yes, I spoiled the party, they had to listen to my speech.  I realized I chose a pretty good topic when one of our friends started asking me a lot of questions about the scholarships because she has a niece that's a junior in high school.

I was recently talking to my daughter, who will be taking this class when the next session starts, how I really enjoy my speech class.  I must admit that I dreaded taking the class but to my surprise it has been a lot of fun.  There is definitely a lot that I have learned and that I will be able to use in my everyday life.  It has really made me think about my actions and how and what I say to other people.

For the next speech, the toast, I am really look forward to this.  I can't wait to hear everyone else's toast.  It should be a lot of fun.
